Dad, I wrote this poem last night. I hope that you can share it with Grandma, Mom, Lorraine and everyone. I think it is the best way to express myself sometimes anyway. I wish I could be up there. I will pray for everyone in private and in Church on Sunday. Please send my love to everyone. love Jimmy

LIKE FROM A PARACHUTE
For my Grandfather Edward Arthur Calcott, 8-2-2000

I imagine that green farmland
right outside the city Bastogne
And up in the sky-early morning
The earth's saviors
Those young men in their gliders, coming down in parachutes
On their sleeves said 101
In their pockets the paper to write home
To be young again- yes
And brave
For America, for democracy
To eradicate an evil
We still recognize as evil today
And they did it, and he did it
With the heart of an artist- feeling
The back of an oak tree- he did it
And they crawled and they shot
For each one of us back home
His only tour of Europe, Western Europe by the sea
And his return home a hero
The ticker tape parades, ladies swinging, children saluting
Back home by train to upstate
To mother waiting- happy smiling
To see her son return, strong and handsome
My grandfather in that photo
Who taught me about love
With a heart that could run a locomotive
The first tears from a man
I saw them as a boy, when Great Grandmother died
And now on the eve, of the day he has left us
I know damn well
That he is happy tonight
Without the pain of old-ness
Without the yearning for young-ness
He is watching over, floating again
Like from a parachute
Peaceful Free-falling, no fear and silence
In love with all of us
Bigger than all of us
And his grandsons remember, and daughters will to
His wife and friends still see him
In the evening sky
I will miss him and visit him frequently
Every time I look up, I'll see him there
With his smile-great smile
great eyes always said, "I love You"
He is watching over, floating again
   Like from a parachute

[Square & Compasses]

I AM FREEMASONRY

I was born in antiquity, in the ancient days when men first dreamed of God. I have been tried through the ages, and found true. The crossroads of the world bear the imprint of my feet, and the cathedrals of all nations mark the skill of my hands.

I strive for beauty and for symmetry. In my heart is wisdom and strength and courage for those who ask. Upon my alters is the Book of Holy Writ, and my prayers are to the One Omnipotent God, my sons work and pray together, without rank or discord, in the public mart and in the inner chamber. Bu signs and symbols

I teach the lessons of life and of death and the relationship of man with God and of man with man. My arms are widespread to receive those of lawful age and good report who seek me of their own free will. I accept them and teach them to use my tools in the building of men, and thereafter, find direction in their own quest for perfection so much desired and so difficult to attain.

I lift up the fallen and shelter the sick. I hark to the orphans' cry, the widows tears, the pain of the old and destitute. I am not church, nor party, nor school, yet my sons bear a full share of responsibility to God, to country, to neighbor and themselves. They are freemen, tenacious of their liberties and alert to lurking danger.

At the end I commit them as each one undertakes the journey beyond the vale into the glory of everlasting life. I ponder the sand within the glass and think how small is a single life in the eternal universe. Always have I taught immortality, and even as I raise men from darkness into light, I am a way of life. I Am Freemasonry. Denslow
